MARCELLO DE FRANCISCI: A Cinematic Travelogue through Time

(AUDIO INTERVIEW + MUSIC MIX)

Marcello De Francisci is a film music composer who has distinguished himself for his style of wrapping memories of past eras in epic sounds. His best-known projects are fruits of the creative relationship with the extraordinary composer and soloist Lisa Gerrard, the unmistakable feminine voice of Dead Can Dance, and the Golden Globe Award winner for the soundtrack of the Gladiator movie (co-composed with Hans Zimmer). They have collaborated on music for films such as Jane Got a Gun (starring Natalie Portman), Oranges & Sunshine (starring Emily Watson, Hugo Weaving), Samsara (sequel to the Baraka documentary), as well as two studio albums (Departum and Exaudia). Their artistic partnership grew on trust and mutual appreciation, two pillars that support the co-creation of many unique sonic architectures.

Besides these collaborations, and soundtracks he has produced some superb albums for APMMusic and Sonoton Trailer Tracks, including Sovereign, Illuminati, and Epica. In the following interview, Marcello De Francisci talks about his artistic beginnings, working with Lisa Gerrard, his internship with Hans Zimmer, and many other details of his creative venture into the world of film music.
